Saginaw, MI – On March 1, 2011, Duperon Corporation joined forces with Dow Chemical and Covenant Healthcare to make a difference for the children of mid-Michigan. The Saginaw Spirit Education Game Day event reached approximately 4,000 school-aged children with educational experiments and experiences designed to engage attendees in the topics of clean water, personal health and fitness, and chemistry. The day was topped with an Ontario Hockey League game featuring Saginaw’s own Spirit team playing against the Plymouth Whalers.
To Duperon, the event provided an opportunity to encourage students to explore experiments – and career paths – they may not have previously considered. Duperon Corporation presented several water-related exhibits to the students, who ranged from first to twelfth grade level from several communities in the Great Lakes Bay region of Michigan. “Our goal was to have exhibits that engaged students at every level,” said Tammy Bernier, President and CEO of Duperon Corporation.
The exhibits included a working tabletop community to show the flow of water and its treatment; additionally, information on careers in water was available for older students beginning to think about their futures. Another station gave students the opportunity to examine and assemble a water meter; nearby, a face-painting station hosted by Duperon personnel was busy throughout the day. As the children had their faces painted, they were given information on water conservation.
Later, a member of the Duperon team took to the ice to participate in the Principal and Sponsor shoot-out.
“This event gave us the opportunity to share our commitment to make a difference. Throughout the planning process and especially on the day of the event, we were very conscious of the fact that we were sharing our mission with the next generation,” relayed Tammy Bernier. “We had a fantastic time with the kids, and more than that, we’re happy to have been able to share with them. We look forward to more educational opportunities in the future, and to the difference this next generation will make.”
